I picked up Slipknot's latest album "All hope is gone" yesterday but just started playing it. While this album is not nearly as aggressive (so far, just into "Sulfur") as their self titled album released in 1999. It is a step above and beyond their last album "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses". One of my favorite tracks (the vid played a big part) is "Psychosocial". So far, so good with this album. I'm already looking forward to the U.S. tour. I'll definitely be in the pit.
Back to the album. The guitar riffs are slightly more aggressive than on Vol. 3, but nowhere near as heavy as those on IOWA which was the darkest album the band managed to release. I'm listening to "Dead Memories", it doesn't quite fit the overall album and sounds like something that Stone Sour (Corey Taylor (vocalist) and James Root (guitarist)) would release on the side. It doesn't sit well with me right now. It doesn't sound like Slipknot. But hell, you have to give some major points to the Knot for updating the masks this album cycle right?
I'm going to keep listening to this album today and slap it on my iPod while I'm on my PC. I recommend this album to any newbie getting started with the Knot. It's a good album to break in any potential "maggot" and then I recommend purchasing the previous albums and build that library.

From Metallica's 2003 album St. Anger, "The Unnamed Feeling" (Lyrics) is one of the few songs that I acutally enjoy listening to. Overall, I really wasn't impressed with the release of St. Anger. It wasn't edgy like previously released Metallica albums. I remember watching them perform on MTV's Icon and it was great seeing the band perform "Hit the lights", "Enter Sandman", "Blackened", "Creeping Death", and finally "Battery" before breaking into "Frantic" as the end credits rolled on.
In one of my previous posts I listed as Metallica making their appearance with Ozzfest this summer here in Dallas. It should make for a great show given they play all those older tracks. I'm still curious as to what the sound of the new album will be like. Only time will tell I suppose.
ADDENDUM:
I found the MTV ICON performance from 2003. I didn't feel like loading the video since I had already found it on youtube, but I'll load if if it's pulled from there.
