Senator Obama wasted no time in taking it to Senator McCain, he gave his speech in St. Paul, MN where the RNC will be held later this year. I found an interesting article about a Republican that wants Obama to win. Next up for Obama is taking part in the Veepstakes to pick a running mate for the fall. Caroline Kennedy was selected to help out with the process, I think she'll really help out here. There are a few names that I'd like to see on the short list of potential running mates:
- Joe Biden: He's been right about the Iraq war, called out "bullshit" on Bush's statement, I found it amusing when he called "creationism" a bunch of malarkey. His age could be a factor as to why he wouldn't be considered.
- Kathleen Sebelius: She could be seen as helping Senator Obama carry not only Kansas (red state), but the "mid-western" and even female vote.
- Chuck Hagel: A decorated Vietnam veteran from Nebraska would also make a great choice. Obama could reach across party lines (since Hagel is a Republican), but I'm not sure how the Democratic Party could see this when they'd probably want one of Hillary's subordinates as a choice. Hagel made the statement "To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic." and has criticized the Bush Administration on Iraq as well. He'd help carry the mid-western vote and possibly Nebraska
If Clinton's supporters keep pushing on this "She was robbed" meme hard enough, doesn't that risk endangering the positions of a bunch of elected Democrats NOT named Senator Obama? If she works enough of her people up into a frenzy by continuing to hold out, not only will they keep blaming Obama if McCain is elected, but they're going to blame the Superdelegates that shifted towards Obama.
Has it not occurred to HRC, or anybody in her campaign, that this would be a great way to potentially unravel the impending congressional Democratic landslide? Nothing like having 10-15% of your base sulking out the general to help the Republicans win. This whole thing has gone beyond self-centeredness, it should be about supporting the party, the ideals of the party, NOT the individual as I read in that message board. It's way past time to shut this thing down.
Cheers
With the large margin of victory in North Carolina (14 points) and the narrow margin of loss in Indiana (1.8 points or 23,000 votes) means that the delegates gained in each contest wipes away the ones Hillary earned in Pennsylvania. The Clinton camp canceled the morning television visits, there's only one fund raising event scheduled for the late afternoon. I think this will give them the time to think about whether to continue with the campaign. I'm sure they'll keep going all the way until Denver, if they do, then there are a couple contests that Clinton "could" win, all to help her bow out on the high note.
I think she's come to terms and recognized that this very well could be the end. Both parties talked about party unity, so I think that the speech in Indiana was more of her concession. She's still needed to collect the debt her campaign owes her since she had loaned 5 million in order to keep it floating. I don't think that she'd be able to get the large percentage of Superdelegates (over 70% or 200 count) needed in order for her to secure the nomination for the Democratic party before Denver. Now her campaign will have to enter into negotiations to try and get both Florida and Michigan seated and the delegates awarded (and votes counted), even if that were the case, she'd still be down to Obama. (100 delegate lead in favor of Obama and 170K votes still in his favor)
With Obama's path looking even more clear, it's time that his campaign starts to focus on McCain. Also, Clinton's supporters really should start licking their wounds and stick with the party to help Senator Obama this November.
From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
NBC News has allocated some of the pledged delegates from Indiana and Pennsylvania.
INDIANA: Clinton 35-31 (6 remain to be allocated)
NORTH CAROLINA: Obama 49-42 (24 remain to be allocated)
The Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1,572-1,415
SUPERDELEGATES: Clinton 272.5-256
OVERALL: 1,828-1.687.5
This would put Obama within 197 of the 2,025. (This, of course, does not include Florida and Michigan.)

...on Hillary's declining respect for the voters. "You're like the pile of toast, next to the orange juice in the Fruity Pebbles commercial."
I think that it's safe to say that if Senator Obama were to be the nominee for the Democratic party, he'd be more than capable to carry those "big" states like Texas, California, and Pennsylvania but also win over the swing states and a few red ones along the way. With the next primaries approaching, let's see how badly Hillary will pander to each group within the next 11 days.
She knew the rules, so did Michigan and Florida. Those two states are being punished for moving their primary dates forward.
