I think everyone can safely say that music is, or has been a big influence on their life.  How it can define and clarify your current mood, bring back distant memories or define an entire generation.  I think everyone has a particular piece of music that hits them the hardest; something that digs down deep and evokes the most emotion.

There are quite a few artists (and songs) that really "do it" for me.  Most of these I'll listen to while training in the gym or just when I'm on the road since I don't listen to the radio anymore.  The links to the songs listed are from within my Vox music library of tracks I uploaded.  Just open a separate tab to listen to the track while you browse (or continue reading).

Those were just to name a few.  I guess what I find so powerful about it, is you can hear in it (and develop a connection to it through personal experience): pain, suffering, desperation borne of sadness; a bit of insanity, but through it all an unbreakable resolve not to give up, not to lay down and let the events of your life roll over you (check out some Hatebreed's lyrics and you'll get where I'm going with this), so I think this makes it (the music and connection) all the more powerful.
 
I'm used to listening to these various artists on either my iPod or my iPhone during long road trips (more to come this fall now that college football is in season) to Lincoln, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, or where ever else I wanted to go for a day or two.  I like how I can just sit there in my car and just let my emotions wash over me regardless of my current mood while my mind wanders.

I figured that I'd start something new for my blog.  I'm going to blog about my top 25 for the week.  I'm just going to let my iPod play at random and list those songs.  I can't go off iTunes because I'm STILL not finished loading my library.  I have roughly 4300 on my iPod and over 12,000 on my HD.

I should've started this back on Monday, but I'm sure that I'll work my way there eventually.  Thursday is not bad really, we're that much closer to the weekend anyway right?  No, it's not going to be a list entirely made of metal, speed metal, thrash metal, dethmetal, death metal, heavy metal, goth metal, but I'm sure those will make their way into the playlist at some point.  It is what it is...

I also thought about posting each song for the playlist, but then decided against it.  For now I'll just post the song, artist, and album.
