I picked up Slipknot's latest album "All hope is gone" yesterday but just started playing it. While this album is not nearly as aggressive (so far, just into "Sulfur") as their self titled album released in 1999. It is a step above and beyond their last album "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses". One of my favorite tracks (the vid played a big part) is "Psychosocial". So far, so good with this album. I'm already looking forward to the U.S. tour. I'll definitely be in the pit.
Back to the album. The guitar riffs are slightly more aggressive than on Vol. 3, but nowhere near as heavy as those on IOWA which was the darkest album the band managed to release. I'm listening to "Dead Memories", it doesn't quite fit the overall album and sounds like something that Stone Sour (Corey Taylor (vocalist) and James Root (guitarist)) would release on the side. It doesn't sit well with me right now. It doesn't sound like Slipknot. But hell, you have to give some major points to the Knot for updating the masks this album cycle right?
I'm going to keep listening to this album today and slap it on my iPod while I'm on my PC. I recommend this album to any newbie getting started with the Knot. It's a good album to break in any potential "maggot" and then I recommend purchasing the previous albums and build that library.

What else can I say but "Damn"! Okay, I'm going back to watch this video again.
I did my time, and I want out
So abusive, FATE
It doesn't cut, the soul is not so vibrant
The reckoning, the sickening
Back at you, subversion
Pseudo-sacred pyscho virgin
Go tell your classes
Go dig you grave
Then fill your mouth with all the money you have saved
Sinking in getting smaller again.
I'm done! It has begun, I'm not the only one!
And the rain will kill us all.
Throw ourselves against the wall.
But no one else can see.
The preservation of the martyr in me.
Psychosocial, Psychosocial, Psychosocial
Psychosocial, Psychosocial, Psychosocial
Oh, there are cracks in the road we lay
From when the devil fell
The secrets have gone mad?
This is nothing new
but when we kill it all
the hate was all we had
who needs another mess
We could start over
just look me in the eyes and say i'm wrong
now there's only emptiness
But I'm missing something
i think were good I'm not the only one
And the rain will kill us all.
Throw ourselves against the wall.
But no one else can see.
The preservation of the martyr in me.
Hey get that back inside,
I tried to tell you first
Your hurtful lies are giving out
Can't stop the killing, I can't help it.
Is there something psycho?
Is this what you want?
I'm not the only one!
And the rain will kill us all.
Throw ourselves against the wall.
But no one else can see.
The preservation of the martyr in me.
And the rain will kill us all.
Throw ourselves against the wall.
But no one else can see.
The preservation of the martyr in me.

What kind of hack (crap) work is this? Here's the item description (from the website):
Number 4 James Slipknot mask is an officially licensed mask from Morbid Industries. #4 James Slipknot mask has front face coverage with velcro straps to secure the mask. All the Slipknot masks are hot for Halloween. If you're a Slipknot Maggot, don't miss out. Gather some of your Slipknotic friends and go as the whole band. Slipknot is a great group Halloween costume idea. Slipknot costume industrial jumpsuit sold separately.

Honestly, is anyone really expected to purchase this and be satisfied with the product? For those that don't know, I've been a huge Slipknot fan since 1999. The fanbase are known as the "Maggot Corps" or "maggots" for short. Fans often go to the shows wearing homemade masks, the mask shown above is supposedly an "officially" licensed product. WTH? Let's take a look at the mask #4 (Jim Root) wears and you'll see that this product looks like garbage compared to the one that he wears during Slipknot performances.
The last show I went to was in 2005 at the Nokia Live center in Grand Prairie. The mask you see here (slipknot-metal.com) is the same mask that I have and it resembles #4's mask more than the crap product that's being sold now. It's from the last album cycle, each cycle, the masks evolve in a sense. I got quite a few looks while walking around during the show (before Knot's performance) and the fellow fans approved. I've had my mask since 2004, it's made out of latex while the Knot masks the band wears are made out of leather. I can't wait until the next Slipknot album cycle and touring. They put on a great show!

Submitted by aa.#8 aka Corey Taylor of Slipknot. As a longtime fan of the band (since 1999), I've always liked the raspy vocal effect that he uses. Slipknot's style is rather extreme (which I love), the band's sound "a threshing machine devouring a military drum corps." The lyrics generally follow a very aggressive tone and are, as Rick Anderson of All Music Guide put it, "not generally quotable on a family website." The lyrics feature such themes as darkness, nihilism, anger, disaffection, and psychosis. The band features a rather typical guitar setup with a lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, and bassist. The guitars are heavily downtuned and near death metal in tone. Unlike the vast majority of popular bands, Slipknot features two precusionists in addition to the primary drummer. The audience is basically blasted by a wall of sound as the two extra percussionists flank the drummer who holds the band together. Anyway here's "Gently" from the Disasterpieces DVD.
