Another trip to Boulder, another day of mayhem.  This time the circus centers on Colorado coach Dan Hawkins, who was told Thursday he gets to keep his job for at least one more year despite a 16-32 record.  Let’s take a walk down memory lane and recall some of Nebraska’s latest trips to Boulder, shall we?

1997: Ahman Green rushes for 202 yards and Nebraska builds a 27-10 lead, only to watch Colorado score two touchdowns in a span of 39 seconds late in the fourth quarter. A final Buffs drive is derailed to preserve a 27-24 Husker win and keep alive a national championship season.

1999: No. 3 Nebraska again falters in the fourth-quarter, blowing a 27-3 lead. CU’s Jeremy Aldrich has a 34-yard field goal to win it as time expires, but pushes it wide right. Eric Crouch sneaks it in from the 1 to win 33-30 in overtime and slip by a 6-5 Colorado team.

2001: With Eric Crouch on the cover of Sports Illustrated, the Huskers travel to CU and get buried. The Buffs lead 35-3 by the second quarter and roll up 582 yards. Colorado wins it 62-36 and fans tear down the goal posts. Husker mojo lost?

2003: Several days before the game, the Journal Star runs a story citing anonymous sources who say Frank Solich will be fired. With uncertainty and rumors swirling, the Huskers play inspired for their coach, scoring the final 10 points to win 31-22. The Huskers finish the regular season 9-3. A day later Solich is fired. Bo Pelini is named the interim coach for the bowl game.

2005: Nebraska gets its mojo back? That’s what they are selling after the Huskers beat CU 30-3, players sporting “Restore The Order” T-shirts as they come off the field. Nebraska entered the game as a 17-point favorite. But after a pregame skirmish between the two teams at midfield, the Huskers dominate, causing CU students to throw debris on the field. The entire student section is kicked out of the stadium.

2007: With it all but certain that Bill Callahan will be fired as Nebraska’s coach the next day, the Huskers score 51 points but still lose by two touchdowns. The newspaper headline the next morning reads: BLACK FRIDAY. Callahan is fired.
