This summer, all eyes will be on Texas
Another Metallica single from the 2003 St. Anger album, this particular track "St. Anger" had potential, but fell way short. Again, Metallica's going to be on the Ozzfest lineup this summer. As a long time fan, I've been looking forward to seeing them for some time now. But I have to ask which Metallica are we (the fans) going to see? Is it going to be the Metallica of old or is it going to be the experimental (St. Anger) version of the band we once knew?
Metallica had one of the best sounds that made them thrash metal pioneers in the 80's. Their best album (in my view) is still ...And Justice for All. Again, I really wasn't impressed with St. Anger. In case you (the reader) don't know how some fans (myself included) feel about St. Anger, check out this comic and it should shed some light on things.
Okay, moving on. I really do have high hopes for the next Metallica album, I want it to be the kind of album that will make me believe that this band hasn't lost their connection to the fans. With Rick Rubin board, there's still hope. He's worked with the likes of Slipknot and Slayer, bonus right? I also like the fact we're going to see the return of the guitar solo. Major bonus.
Once the album is released (supposed to be later this year), we'll see how much "internets" traffic is generated from p2p traffic vs Metallica actually releasing tracks to the fans and embracing the p2p community. Maybe they'll earn their stripes back along the way?
Here's one of the singles from the St. Anger album title "St. Anger" (Lyrics). Be sure to check out the track that's posted under it. It's been re-edited. One of the things you'll notice by comparing the track released by the band vs the re-edit is the overall sound quality of the instruments and even the vocal tracks.
It has that heavier sound to it again (the re-edit). This is the version that the fans deserved, not what was actually given to them on that album. I'd say this version of "St. Anger" sounds better. So regardless of that old saying, I guess the re-release of this song proves you really can polish a turd. Even one so bad as the St. Anger album. HA!
